If your child is starting to recognize or identify colors, this bug color matching activity is a great way to begin. This printable game can be used for matching, sorting, or playing memory. A color matching game is a fantastic first activity to introduce to your toddler or preschooler.
If your child doesn’t know all the color names yet, you can help by thinking aloud. For example, you can point to the blue bug and say, “Here’s the blue bug. I wonder where the blue leaf is?” This way, your child can find the matching color and learn the name of the color at the same time.
In this activity, children place the matching ladybug(s) on the same color leaves. I created the leaves with and without color labels and also included the alternate spelling of the color gray/grey.
